The situation we meet most often in managed infrastructure is backup being counted as "done". In most organizations the backup job genuinely runs and completes successfully every night. Whether it can actually be restored from, how long that would take and what data would be lost is usually untested. A backup only becomes an assurance once a restore has been rehearsed.

There is a similar gap in disaster recovery: a site that was invested in, a procedure that was defined, and a document that has not been updated for years. If it is unclear what the person making the call would actually do during a real incident, having the infrastructure ready is not enough on its own. That is why we run the rehearsal as part of the service.

Server room modernization tends to be postponed because it is never urgent, and the risk grows with every postponement. Power, cooling, cabling and physical access control go unnoticed while they work quietly; when one of them fails, the ground every other investment stands on gives way. We measure the current state and produce a prioritized improvement plan.
